Middlesex Area Interclub Challenge
The last event of the year, held on a VERY cold Friday 9th December took place at Evreham for the second year running.  Ignoring the cold hall, we had a great time with lots of good Judo on display.  The results and other details are far too great for this page so they can be found by clicking here where all will be revealed.

Hertfordshire Area Grading
Tom, Molly and Shona attended the Hertfordshire Area Grading today on a promise that there would be sufficient Judoka of the right standard to compete against.  Hertfordshire did not let us down and both Molly and Tom won all of their contests decisively.

BJC Senior National Championship 2011
We entered a team into the BJC Senior National Championship and pulled a FIVE medal haul!  Primarily down to Laura and Jessica Day.  In a desparate attempt to relive previous glory, David Sensei just scrapped in.

Southampton Samurai
Chalfont Judokwai entered our largest ever team at the Southampton Samurai Championship on the 13th November.  Eighteen of us travelled down (ten by minibus) to compete in this event and what a fabulous day it was!  Jonah picked up Gold AND a Silver by being entered into two different weight categories and Molly won her group with five decisive Ippons which included against both the BJC Welsh National champion and a BJA National Squad team member.  Elliot put in a magnificent display of Ippon Judo and both Noah and Jay grabbed Silver where they were deprived of the Gold by exceptionally close margins.  Very well done to them all!

Jessica Day was also confirmed as a BJC Club level referee.

Due to a shortage of contestants, Chelsea who weighs under 60Kg was merged into the under 70Kg category.  Jonah who weighs 27Kg was entered into the under 30Kg where he won Gold but as there was a shortage of contestants he also fought in the under 35Kg where he won 3 out of 4 contests.

Also competing were Oliver, primary under 25kg (who just missed out of a medal due to an injury preventing further contests but who won two out of three contests), Tom Hargreaves, senior men under 70Kg (who scored one win with a beautiful Ippon but was unable to progress) and Allen Hart, senior men under 60Kg.

Videos of those competing can be seen by clicking here.

Success at the White Horse Oxfordshire Open Championships!

The Chalfont Judokwai enjoyed a fantastic success at the Open Championships in Didcot, which took place on the 16th of October. In particular Tessa, who has only been with our club for six weeks.  Also Alex and Oliver who have battled away without success earlier this year but have now been able to show off their ability as their confidence has grown.  This was a great result for the club and everyone who attended.

BJC National Kata Tournament

Four of us attended this event on the 4th September in Tamworth.  We did quite well:

  • Molly Jackson (Tori) partnered with Victoria Cleevely (Uke) to take the Gold for Katame no Kata
  • Noah Alfert (Tori) partnered with Shona Alfert (Uke) taking the Bronze also in Katame no Kata
  • Shona Alfert (Tori) partnered with Noah Alfert (Uke) gaining the Gold for Ju no Kata
David Sensei (Tori) partnered with Yvette Fox (Uke) just missed out on the medals for Katame no Kata.  But Roy Sensei spent the hour and a half journey home explaining everything that he did wrong.

Chalfont Summer Course

We held our first ever weekend course at St. Albans Judo Club on the 24th-25th of July and enjoyed a good turnout.  Amongst the instructors where Branko Andjelkovich 6th Dan, Roger Harris 4th Dan, Bob Cleevely 3rd Dan and Tony LeRoux 3rd Dan.  A copy of the course leaflet can be found here.

There are a few videos below but more can be found on the Chalfont YouTube channel.

Aylesbury Kendo Club visit Chalfont

On the 19th June we were honoured to receive a visit from the Aylesbury Kendo Club which was arranged with the assistance of one of its members, Mr. Keen who teaches Noah at DCGS.  We had a great time learning the key concepts and art of the sword and enjoyed the demonstration.  Afterwards we all had a lot of fun whilst we tried Kendo out for ourselves.  Pictures of us can be viewed by clicking here (shortly once they have been uploaded).

North London Basho

This annual event took place on the 15th May at Luton Judo Club.  We took a good team of ten along in a minibus, but somewhere in the mix, David Sensei, who thought that his duty was to referee, was conned into contesting.  It was all good fun:

Bob Cleevely 3rd Dan visits Evreham

Bob paid us the honour of a visit on the 10th March to take a session Sangaku Jimi (leg strangles) as well as the odd armlock.  He bought Darren Rolph along with him as Uke because Darren particuarly likes experiencing pain.  For this session we opened up the junior/senior session into one long session so that all could gain the best advantage of Bob's knowledge.
